Vein Care - Endo Venous Laser Treatment: EVLT
(Non-surgical, local anaesthetic)

EVLT is a treatment for varicose veins, and in some cases can be an alternative to surgery.

All our laser staff are certified in laser safety, in line with NZ laser safety standards, so you can be assured you are in safe hands. Also, all our machines are FDA Approved - so are certified and regularly tested.

EVLT is carried out in the rooms as an out-patient procedure, using local anaesthetic. There less risks than surgery and is a good alternative in many cases. There are no scars and little pain or discomfort.

This treatment involves inserting a laser catheter into the main problem vein through a tiny nick in the skin, usually just below the inside of the knee. Local anaesthetic is used before and during the procedure to minimize any discomfort, and to protect tissue surrounding the vein from the laser’s heat.

This laser produces sufficient heat to damage the vein so that it will scar shut. EVLT has been used since 2001 in NZ and in most cases the results show a high success rate for permanent closure of the treated vein.

Afterwards, most patients experience a little discomfort, which varies from that day to a few days later, but most patients find they can carry on as normal.

Some patients are not suitable for this treatment because of the size, distribution or site of the varicose veins.

Procedure takes 1 hour per leg or vein, and two main veins can be lasered in the same session. Surface, tortuous veins still usually need sclerotherapy later, although many may diminish to your satisfaction without further treatment.

A compression stocking is worn day and night for the 1st week and during the day 2nd week. This assists with the recovery and offers comfort.

No time is required off work apart, from the appointment times for treatment and follow up.
