Surgery
Where this is the best option or choice,
you will have
a consultation with our surgeon and proceed from
there.
The consultation with Mr Stan Govender takes approximately
30 minutes, when he will assess what is required. He will
explain the procedure and give an estimate of costs.
- Surgery is always under General
anaesthetic.
- Surgery can take from 90 minutes
to 3 hours depending on the severity of the
problem.
- An overnight stay in hospital
is recommended.
- 1 week off work recommended.
- Of course with surgery there
will be some scarring, but most are so tiny
that stitches are not required, and become
difficult to find after only a few months.
- Stockings need
to be worn during day and night for 3 weeks
(These minimize the DVT risk,
give comfort, and assist the recovery).
- Postoperative checks are at
1 week and 6 weeks.
-
Tiny spider veins will not
be removed during surgery, but these often
improve considerably in the following 4 months
or so. However, if desired these can treated
with sclerotherapy later. (see
Sclerotherapy)
* If the spider veins are caused
by larger, varicose veins, then the bigger
problem needs to be treated before the spider
veins can be.

Vein Surgery Costs:
Health Insurance usually
covers most, if not all, the cost of surgery,
pre-operative scans and consultations, but
it pays to check with your particular company
as to your eligibility. Stan will provide you with a written Estimate of costs at your consultation.
We are Southern Cross Affiliated, which means that we deal directly with them
on your behalf.
