Many veins are very prominent and visible, especially on hands and feet. These are usually perfectly normal, healthy veins, but may be considered aging and unattractive by some.

Typically there is a small layer of fat between the skin and this system of veins, which has the effect of “hiding” the veins. However, with aging, this fatty layer naturally tends to become thinner and less elastic, making the veins and tendons in these areas even more noticeable.

How can Prominent Veins be Treated?

It is important to keep in mind that these veins are normal and do not need to be treated. However, if they cause distress because of their appearance, treatments include concealment or removal.

Concealment:

A long lasting dermal filler, “Radiesse” or other appropriate product is injected. Results are immediate and can last for over for a year.

Removal:

Not recommended. This could be surgical removal, laser or sclerosing with injections. However, these veins are often used as sites for intravenous drip or for other medical procedures, and it is advisable to leave them intact. It is not the practice of this clinic to treat these veins in this way.
