What are Age Spots? / What are Sunspots?

Flat, dark spots on skin are often referred to as "age spots", "sun spots" or "liver spots", and are frequently found on the face and hands. These are easily removed with laser and/or IPL. They are the direct result of accumulated exposure to sunlight, and tend to start showing up in the 40’s + age group.

Other Skin Pigmentations

Other skin pigmentation can be caused by hormonal changes, especially in pregnancy, (called “pregnancy mask” or melasma), the oral contraceptive pill and HRT, as well as some disease processes. Dr Elisabeth is on hand if there are any concerns about the suitability of treatment.

If you can feel the spot with your eyes closed it needs to be inspected first by your doctor.

Birthmark removal is also possible, however, common freckle removal is not usually an option as they are often too light to be treated, and as they are genetic, they will return very quickly.
