For Women

Varicose Veins

Large Leg Veins

Varicose veins are very common, with as many as 40% of women suffering from them in some populations. For women they often appear during pregnancy, but not necessarily, and there does seem to be a strong family link.

About Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are formed when the valves within the veins fail to work properly. This then allows blood to flow backwards, causing the veins to stretch and bulge. As yet there is no cure, or way of preventing the development of varicose veins, but with good treatment & management the problems are certainly minimized.

Varicose Vein Symptoms

Heaviness or aching of the legs that gets worse during the day are often signs of varicose veins. At Vein & Laser we can diagnose the problem for you, so come and see us if you are unsure.

Treatment of Varicose Veins

Treatment options offered depend on your personal preference, and the suitability of your veins to the various treatments. Symptoms usually improve very quickly once treatment for the veins is started.

An initial assessment taking 30 minutes with Dr Elisabeth De Felice is your first step. Varicose veins always need an ultrasound-mapping scan, which takes 30 mins per leg.
